Mifgash Shemesh in Bnei Brak is a very worthwhile shawarma restaurant with the top notch kosher (mehadrin) hechsher of Rav Machpud.

Mifgash Shemesh in Bnei Brak

I ordered shawarma in a laffa for lunch and the meal was so filling that as I’m sitting down to write this review I can’t imagine eating dinner. The laffa was “prepped,” by my request, with hummus and plenty of harif, spicey sauce, and was stuffed with a generous amount of turkey and beef, tomato cucumber salad, onions and then topped off with tahini sauce.

It came with a small plastic side dish of french fries which were fine, but despite my hefty appetite, I could hardly finish them.

Then there’s the salad bar where you can take another small plastic bowl and fill it up with sliced marinated carrots, dill pickles, hot peppers and marinated cabbage salad.

The price for this meal is 39 NIS. True, you can find a laffa with shawarma for less elsewhere, but if you consider the quality and quantity of the food together with the mehadrin, badatz kashrut of Rav Machpud, it’s a very good value.

If you want a smaller portion, order your shwarma in a pita (31 NIS), and if you prefer shwarma in a baguette, that’s also an option, but it’s also a bigger portion.

Mifgash Shemesh also offers kebabs, either entrecote or chicken, as well as chicken livers and you can order them in a pita or baguette or on a plate with salad and french fries.

If you are too busy to go there, Mifgash Shemesh will deliver. The minimum order for delivery is 50 NIS and there is a 10 NIS delivery charge, but if several people order, the minimum will surely be reached and the delivery fee can be shared.

There are two seating options: either at a bar-like counter or at several small tables for two. Fancy it ain’t, but that’s shawarma. The staff is quite friendly and helpful. The guy behind the counter noticed that my laffa was unravelling because I was peeling away the paper wrapping too fast and kindly offered to do a “renovation” on my poor laffa.

By the way, anyone who looks for badatz-type kosher restaurants in Ramat Gan knows that they’re few and far between, and that’s true even in parts of Bnei Brak. Another note for the record is that Mifgash Shemesh should not be confused with Shawarma Shemesh which has several franchises in Ramat Gan and Bnei Brak.
